General Mills Reduces Sugar in Cerals

General Mills recently announced a commitment to reduce sugar in cereal advertised to kids under 12 to single digit grams of sugar per serving. Cereal can provide many benefits. According to information given to me by General Mills through MyBlogSpark:
-

Ready-to-eat cereals, including presweetened cereals, account for only 5% of sugar in children´s diets.
Ready-to-eat cereal is the No. 1 source of whole
grains in a child´s diet today.
More frequent cereal eaters tend to have
healthier body weights and lower Body Mass Index measures. Studies also demonstrate the benefits of eating breakfast.

A 1998 study showed that children who eat breakfast tend to perform better at school. Compared to children who skip breakfast, children who eat breakfast score higher on tests, are less likely to miss class or be tardy, have fewer reported discipline problems, and make fewer trips to the office.

If you click here you can print a coupon for $1 off one of four General Mills cereal.
-
This information was provided to me by General Mills through MyBlogSpark, along with 4 free cereal coupons.
-
I used these coupons to get 2 Boxes of Honey Nut Cheerios & 2 Boxes of Mulitgrain Cheerios. My girls are thrilled these are by far their most favorites kinds anyway!!

Thanks! I am a big cereal pusher at my house. My kids love to eat it, and I love pouring in lots of protein and calcium filled milk. Such a healthy breakfast!

Less sugar is good. This is a great website, pity I'm too far away to enjoy the savings :(

You know, it makes you wonder how folks in their 40s and 50s would be if we hadn't grown up on sugary cereals and processed things...

I keep telling my 10 yr old how important it is for her to eat breakfast. She has a bit to eat before school but at weekends it's so hard to get her to eat anything.
