Operation Christmas Child

I know lots of bloggers and readers participate in Operation Christmas Child, our church did for the first time this year. My mother's church has for several years and they are main drop off point in her area. I have always thought is was a special chance for us to give a little something back but I don't think I ever realized just how much this gift can mean to some kids.....
That being said, I receive a weekly email from our 4-H leader, he had this to say about Operation Christmas Child....
  •  "This summer 4-H members had the opportunity to hear from a young lady who grew up in an orphanage in Russia. This young lady, now a college student, relived the story of growing up in this orphanage and the challenges she faced. The young lady (8 or 9 years old at the time) was told on a daily basis that no one wanted her. She was required to share the same toothbrush with many other children at the orphanage. Completely drained of hope, her outlook changed when she received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox full of toys, games and yes, even her own toothbrush/toothpaste. This individual’s outlook on life began to transform after this life changing experience. She went on to tell us how she was adopted by a family and moved to the states."
I just wanted to share that powerful message to everyone and realize your acts of kindness can really give hope.

Our church has been participating in the Operation Christmas Child for several years now. I shop for things all year round. I buy a lot of things after Christmas when they clearance them out really good. I always give something that my own kids would play with. Nothing junky that will fall apart in ten minutes for the kids that get my boxes! I take great pride in finding and packing those boxes full. 2 years ago I was blessed to receive a letter from the family of the 7 year old boy who received my shoebox! He was from Equador. His mother said they were thrilled that I put an envelope with our address on it and her son loved my post cards from West Virginia. They enclosed a little post card they had of a volcano in their area. It was very special.
