Saving Money on Your Bills

We all like to save money on the things we buy, particularly at a time like now when so many of us are in debt and worried about the future… but how many of us actually go out of our way to save money on our bills?

There are several things you could do to help cut the cost of your bills, and save yourself some money, and we will take a look at just a couple of these now.

Saving money on your utility bills

Your utility bills (gas and electricity, for example) are essential expenses - in other words, you couldn't live a normal day-to-day life without the services you are paying for - so it's important that you can afford these at all times.

It is possible, though, to save money on them - but it will initially cost you some money. Basically, by making smart investments to improve the energy efficiency of your home, you can cut the cost of your utility bills.

So, you could, for example, invest in double-glazed windows throughout your house… or pay for cavity wall insulation.

The way it works is simple: making your home more energy efficient will help to keep the heat in - meaning you won't have to fork out as much to re-heat your home when the heat starts escaping.

Saving money on your electricity is simple. If you aren't using it… switch it off. Use this simple motto for every electrical item you have in your house, and you will be surprised how much you can save!

Saving money on your 'non-essential bills'

Your 'non-essential bills' - i.e. the bills covering things you could live without - are just as easy to save money on.

Let's take your TV package, for example. If you pay for subscription TV - are you actually watching all the channels you are paying for? If not, why pay? Talk to your provider and get switched to a cheaper package to get the most out of your money.

Now let's take your phone bills (mobile and home). Again, this is simple. The less you use… the less you pay. If you do talk on your phone regularly, check when your provider's 'off-peak' times are, and try to make your calls during these hours.

What's more, you may be able to find a deal that gives you free evening and weekend calls - just look around for the best deal!

Great ideas, Denise.... We all could work harder to save money... We keep our thermostat LOW in winter---even if I have to wear layers and wrap up in a blanket... ha... Thank God for our wood-burning fireplace.

We had a wonderful Birthday celebration and got home today!!! I'll post a blog tomorrow morning.
Hugs,
Betsy
