Several Ways to Generate Emergency Cash

Borrowing money is never a good idea, unless it’s going to make you more money later. Emergency loans, like money lenders, may help to tide you over, but ultimately a loan is a debt that has to be repaid. If you don’t have any good ways to make the extra money to repay your debt, it can lead to financial difficulties down the line. That’s why when you’re short of cash, it can be a good idea to take a look at different ways to make some spare cash fast.

1. Sell Some Belongings

The Internet has made it easy to list and sell personal belongings you don’t need or want. You can list them on Craigslist or eBay. You don’t have to set up an entire store, if you’re just trying to generate some quick cash. Just post one listing and keep repeating it until it sells. You can even do this in your own neighborhood by having a garage sale.

2. Sell Your Skills

There’s always a ton of things people will pay to have you do. You can pet sit or baby-sit. You can mow lawns. You can haul away junk, if you own a pickup truck. You can repair items, if you’re handy. You can clean houses. There are a number of different skills that people will pay others to do that can generate cash quickly.

3. Negotiate with Your Relatives

Maybe you have some rich relatives who will loan you the spare change. Instead of making it a debt, offer to do something for them in exchange. If you’re artistic, you can offer to paint a mural in a bedroom. Maybe their kids need tutoring. The idea is that you will want to generate cash, without the debt, so that you can go forward without interest charges and late fees, should you find yourself short again.

Saving Money on Your Bills

We all like to save money on the things we buy, particularly at a time like now when so many of us are in debt and worried about the future… but how many of us actually go out of our way to save money on our bills?

There are several things you could do to help cut the cost of your bills, and save yourself some money, and we will take a look at just a couple of these now.

Saving money on your utility bills

Your utility bills (gas and electricity, for example) are essential expenses - in other words, you couldn't live a normal day-to-day life without the services you are paying for - so it's important that you can afford these at all times.

It is possible, though, to save money on them - but it will initially cost you some money. Basically, by making smart investments to improve the energy efficiency of your home, you can cut the cost of your utility bills.

So, you could, for example, invest in double-glazed windows throughout your house… or pay for cavity wall insulation.

The way it works is simple: making your home more energy efficient will help to keep the heat in - meaning you won't have to fork out as much to re-heat your home when the heat starts escaping.

Saving money on your electricity is simple. If you aren't using it… switch it off. Use this simple motto for every electrical item you have in your house, and you will be surprised how much you can save!

Saving money on your 'non-essential bills'

Your 'non-essential bills' - i.e. the bills covering things you could live without - are just as easy to save money on.

Let's take your TV package, for example. If you pay for subscription TV - are you actually watching all the channels you are paying for? If not, why pay? Talk to your provider and get switched to a cheaper package to get the most out of your money.

Now let's take your phone bills (mobile and home). Again, this is simple. The less you use… the less you pay. If you do talk on your phone regularly, check when your provider's 'off-peak' times are, and try to make your calls during these hours.

What's more, you may be able to find a deal that gives you free evening and weekend calls - just look around for the best deal!
